COZY Seaside COTTAGE

This adorable cottage set on a Wells, ME, lake is the perfect place to clear your mind and rejuvenate your spirit. The family, a repeat KMID client, wanted to restore their multi-generational vacation home. They have many memories here and wanted to preserve its original details and historic charm while modernizing the space for easy family living and weekend escapes.

To create a feeling of openness and brighten the space, we lifted the ceiling while maintaining the old line where it was before. The original wood paneling now meets a plaster architectural element.

For this kitchen renovation, we leveraged a vintage color palette with a modern twist. We leaned into the pine paneling but toned down the yellow hue. Wood elements and the colorful penny-tile backsplash create warmth. The sky-blue cabinetry outfitted with bronze hardware honors the original kitchen design with a fresh look.

The client also loves to entertain, so we incorporated touches to ease hosting, like the cabinet latches and labeling (both part of the original kitchen). “It was important that certain pieces, like the fridge and the oven, be both utilitarian and fun,” Kate explains. 

Family and friends can now enjoy this charming nautical cottage and continue making memories in the cozy kitchen for generations to come.
