LAKE SUNAPEE FAMILY Escape
Project Summary
Situated on New Hampshire’s Lake Sunapee, this grand, historic log cabin is a beacon of old meeting new, done right. The family is a couple with three college-aged children, and long-standing KMID clients, which means we’ve already developed a “shared language” when it comes to design.
The challenge was to seamlessly preserve and connect the old hunting lodge with a new, modern addition for multi-generational family gatherings and create a place for the kids to come back to once they enter adulthood.
Vacation homes provide a great opportunity to take creative liberty and have fun with the space, which we achieved through our use of bold colors and patterns. Contemporary features were balanced with natural material selection and a focus on bringing the property’s picturesque surroundings in by grounding the rooms with an openness to the outdoors.
To maximize comfort in the communal areas, we added plenty of seating and cozy lounging nooks. Family and friends can socialize and relax in the large great room or dine al fresco, while kids can play and hang out in the luxury bunk room and well-appointed game room.
This New Hampshire waterfront retreat tells its story while unapologetically offering modern comforts and conveniences and the ultimate breathtaking views.
